*🏛️ Hon. Bonface Mukwate Katula – Champion of Kanyangi Ward and Majority Whip*

Bonface Mukwate Katula serves as the elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyangi Ward in Kitui County, representing the Wiper Democratic Movement–Kenya. He holds the key leadership post of Majority Party Whip in the Kitui County Assembly .

🔹 Role & Responsibilities

As Majority Whip, Hon. Katula ensures smooth coordination among MCAs belonging to the majority party, enforcing party voting lines and maintaining legislative discipline.

He plays a pivotal role in managing the passage of bills and motions initiated by the ruling Wiper party in the Assembly.


🔹 Legislative Achievements

Functions as a vital member of the County Budget and Appropriations Committee. In December 2024, he spearheaded the motion—alongside Deputy Majority Leader Erastus Mbuno—to approve the Governor’s supplementary budget of KSh 14.8 billion  .

Has demonstrated proficiency in budget negotiations, enabling timely reallocation of funds for critical county development projects.


🔹 Political Leadership & Experience

Katula was re-confirmed in his post by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal on June 24, 2025, after internal party leadership wrangles. The tribunal upheld him as the legitimate Majority Whip against challenges from Wiper Party headquarters  .

He has a history of spearheading critical motions in the Assembly, including tabling proceedings related to leadership accountability.

The leadership landscape in Kitui County Assembly has seen intense competition within the Wiper party, with Katula at the center of various reshuffles. In March 2025, efforts led by party elders attempted to replace him as Whip, though intervention by the PPDT ultimately reaffirmed his mandate  .
